Happy Memorial Day!

There continues to be a lot happening in the Baggett house in advance of the twins' arrival. Some of it pertains to prepping for the twins. Some of it is....life.

Graham was born on December 28th and, in attempt to prevent present overload, we've always celebrated his birthday around July 28th. Knowing that the twins' arrival would take away from that celebration a little this year, we opted to have Graham's birthday party even earlier this year.

Given the amount of fun Graham had at Let's Play at a friend's party, we decided to have his party there too.

Buzz made an appearance.
Cake time after playing hard!
Then we came home and opened presents.
I don't know how we'll celebrate Grahambo's birthday going forward but we sure do appreciate our family members that played along with us and sent him presents. Graham got really good at popping the new-wave bubble wrap that cushioned all of his packages.

Julie has been such a trooper. She's one step shy of being on full bed rest but she's doing all she can to continue taking care of Graham and me. She needs her rest though so Graham and I have been enjoying some quality outdoor time to help Julie recharge her batteries.

Boots in the sandbox.
We played on the Slip-N-Slide one weekend. B'day present from Grandma Jane!!!
We played in our new pool the next weekend. Buddy Brooks came over to swim too.
Just a swangin'.
We also joined out friends at the baptism of their daughter. Graham and Brooks were well behaved!

The garden is coming along nicely. We're starting to see some squash and cucumbers. We even have some tomatoes trying to come along. Shouldn't be long!

Bloom on the crookneck squash.

It hasn’t been a really quiet “calm” before the storm around our house. There's lots going on but our list of things to do before the twins arrive is growing smaller by the day. Still, there’s no pause button on life that we can press as we finish prepping.

One of the more unique challenges that come with prepping for twins is finding matching “things” – like clothes, cribs and especially car seats. We’re fortunate to have some very nice neighbors (who are also in our Sunday school class) that have loaned us a baby seat they’re no longer using. Julie found an exact match on eBay so we’re ready for that trip home from the hospital! Graham has even done his part to test the stability of the loaner seat.

Graham was invited to a friend’s birthday party at one of the neatest new places for kids in Birmingham – Let’s Play. This place features ball pits, bounce houses and lots of other fun stations under one roof. Plus, Let’s Play offers side rooms that can be reserved for birthday parties. You may not believe this but it was actually difficult to get Graham to leave this place.

A bigger family is going to need more food, right? Julie has solved for this problem by getting us a pair of raised garden beds. They’re made out of cedar and were easy to assemble. They’re not overly sturdy but they’ll do the job.

Graham helped us plant two varieties of tomatoes, some basil, squash and cucumbers.

Do you think he likes cucumbers now? He sure didn’t a few years ago!

It’s not blazing hot yet so being outside is actually nice these days. However, when you’re outside at our house, it’s hard not to notice all of the carpenter bees burrowing into our shutters and other exposed areas. I turned to YouTube to find a solution and I learned that many people have had success with traps with pre-drilled holes and a container to catch the bees. Here’s the trap I made. No bees yet.

As we garden and attempt to trap bees, Julie and I noticed a problem that we’ve been putting off: our flower beds are in serious need of fresh pine straw. Through the wonder of Facebook, Julie arranged for a local guy to come by the house to give us a quote on delivering and spreading some pine straw. Friends, who knew the pine straw industry was so lucrative?? We agreed to a price and the next day, a partial shipment of the pine straw arrived as we were planting our garden beds. The gentleman that brought the straw had a long trailer on the back of his truck, which made a loud scraping sound as he drove up our steep driveway. There wasn’t enough room for him to turn his vehicle around at the top of the drive way so he had to exit by backing down to the street. I was impressed that it only took him 7 restarts to get all the way down!

As I said, that was only a partial delivery. We were told that the remaining straw would be delivered in the coming days and it would all be spread at that time. As of this post, we still haven’t seen the rest of the straw. But that’s not so bad – we haven’t paid for the first delivery. I’m sure they’ll be back soon!

Lately...

There's only been enough time for me to endure one pollen-related illness but it's already shaping up to be a busy spring! Here's a quick recap of what we've been up to.

Graham spent a weekend with my parents in Camden while Julie and I traveled to Anderson, South Carolina for a cousin's wedding - Julie was a bridesmaid.

We saw lots of family at the hotel, including Auntie Elle!

I had a great lunch with my father-in-law.
Julie was a beautiful bridesmaid but I had to keep a close eye on her as it was surprisingly warm that day.

The week after the wedding, we enjoyed a nice visit from our friend Kiley and her sweet girls. Graham really liked having some playmates his age for a change!

After that, a little prep work for the twins was needed. That included getting a new van!

Graham has been a trooper through it all. He's played with his trains inside.

He's played with his trains outside.

And even took time to oversee the dying of his Easter eggs.

It's been an active month and I know we're very blessed to enjoy it all together!

Like, Love and Don't Like (New FAMILY Edition)

Now that we’re all caught up (and before we slip back into complete silence) it’s time to provide a more current look at what’s going on with the Baggetts. As I mentioned in the last post, I’m going to borrow from my Like, Love and Don’t Like format that I enjoy using to grease the writing wheels. But rather than share personal observations, I’m going to put a “family” twist on this format. Keep reading – you’ll see.

This week, I like having a yard. When we moved into our new house, we went from having ZERO yard to having plenty of room for all kinds of activity. Now that it’s getting warmer, I’m excited about being outside even more with Graham. I’m interested to see if the grass rebounds from the wear and tear of Graham’s “roller coaster”. Graham seems to like digging in the dirt so I’m also pumped about getting his sandbox in place soon. I’ll be sure to share pics and videos.

This week, I love Julie’s tenacity. Julie is doubly pregnant yet she has yet to slow her pace when it comes to taking care of Graham and me, helping coordinate baby showers for our Sunday School class, hosting friends and family members, preparing the nursery, buying extra baby items and all of her other many duties. She’s amazing, really. She told me that she figures she only has a few more weeks left before carrying those babies really starts to take its toll. Until then, she’s trying to get as much done as she can. I try to be as helpful as I can but that means just saying out of her way most of the time!

Here's a recent picture of Julie making my mother feel special on her birthday.
This week, I don’t like toy tornadoes. I guess another reason why I’m looking forward to more time in the yard with Graham is because of the major devastation he leaves in our basement after a day with his toys. It could be worse – at least it’s confined to one part of the house. But, man…that one part of the house sometimes looks like a tornado has scattered all of his toys! Graham has always loved trains. I really thought that interest waned back at Christmas as he only asked Santa for Hot Wheels and Paw Patrol toys. For a short period of 2016, trains took a back seat to those toys. But for last month or so, trains have been in high demand! These days, the confines of his train table are too restrictive – he seems to really enjoy (getting assistance) building new track layouts that span a much bigger area of floor. I guess I shouldn’t complain the product of an enjoyable time. I should also start bracing for the day when we have 3 tornadoes in the house!
